The newly appointed Youth and Sports Minister Bakary Y Badjie on Thursday commence his institutional familiarization tour. The tour is meant to afford the minister to familiarise himself with the institution's under his purview and get first-hand information on the operations of its institutions.
The minister’s delegation was led by Mr Saikou M Sanyang Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Speaking at the Department of Planning and Programme, Mr Musa Mbye the director of the aforementioned institution welcomed the delegates and expressed delight. Mr Mbye gave the overview history of the department, its’ establishment mandate as well as its roles and functions to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He told the newly appointed youth and sports Minister that his institution is mandated for the Planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of youth and sports programs and activities.
Mahmud Lamin Jawla, deputy executive director of National Sports Council expressed similar remarks. He said his institution has structures across the country and their mandate entails to advise the ministry or minister on matters relating to sports.
At the independent stadium and Friendship hotel, Mr Ebou Faye expresses gratitude to the newly appointed minister and delegation. He informed the delegation about their preparation ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers 2020 which the Gambia will be hosting Gabon. Faye equally raises constraint and challenges his institution's faces and called on the government through the ministry of youth and sports for continuous support for the betterment of the independence stadium.
Other institutions were also visited National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), President International Award (PIA), National Youth Council (NYC)and National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) who all expressed similar sentiments like the various institutions. The Youth and Sports minister together with his entourage were escorted in all the institution's operational places.
