The Gambia National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) earlier today held a swearing ceremony for its 14th Batch of Corps members. The colourful ceremony of the 134 corps took over a March-Off Parade by the representative of the Minister of Interior who is overseeing the ministry of Youth and Sports together with the Corp Members, which was held at the independence stadium grounds in Bakau.
The National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) is a body responsible for enhancing the morale of the youths by allowing them to learn about higher ideals of national achievement, social and cultural improvement. The NYSS has the responsibility of providing the youths with marketable skills, so that they may acquire employment in both the formal and informal sectors.
Mr Gibril Ngorr Secka Adviser to the minister Interior who deputise his minister as the overseer of the Youth and Sports Ministry said the Swearing-in ceremony is part of the fundamental activities of the scheme for the corps to take an Oath of service to the nation these he said will inculcate the spirit of Oneness and sense of common national identity with rich diversity.
