Earlier today, our Permanent Secretary Mr Saikou K. Sanyang deputizing for the Minister at the 5th ASMA Biennial conference held at a local hotel in Kololi.
During his opening statement, PS described the theme of The African Sports Management Association (ASMA) "investing in grassroots sport, the surest way of achieving excellence in sport" as very apt considering the challenges and threats of the sport development aspirations.
PS Sanyang went on to say that it demands urgent action and commitment, adding that ASMA is a biennial event meant to bring sports stakeholders within Africa to share their experiences and dilate on issues that affect their sport in the continent.
Professor kihumbu Thairu, President of ASMA said the lineup at the conference will be enriching and useful in ensuring that the participants make significant positive contributions towards the enhancement of sport management practices in Africa and beyond.
For his part, Lamin S. Jawara chairman of the National Sports Council said NSC with the support of the Gambia Government would give all that it takes to participate and support the ASMA program in the country.
He urges the Association and Federation present at the event to make the best use of the opportunity during the three days.
He hopes that the conference would create an opportunity for better sports management skills and achieved excellence in sports.
Marchel Mendy Executive Director of NSC said "I am sure during the conference, we will build many bridges for the benefit of our continent "
Highlighting the achievements of ASMA, Mendy said the biannual started ten years ago and it has proved to be a catalyst for the development of Sport in Africa.
ASMA was established in 2010 in, Kenya and inaugurated in Kampala, Uganda and since its inception, it has been held in Tanzania, Nigeria and Kenya. “The objective of the conference is to avail participants the chance to better understand African sport, through academic activities, research, publications, conference, exhibitions, and many other viable means.
