GAMBIA WRESTLING ASSOCIATION IMPLEMENTATION TEAM, LEAD CONSULTANT PAYS COURTESY CALL TO THE SPORTS MINISTER

The Gambia Wrestling Association EU funded project implementation team and the lead consultant Mr Chris Addy-Nayo on Thursday 18th November 2012 visited the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the leadership of The Minister, Honourable Bakary Y. Badjie.

The delegation was led by Marcel Mendy, Executive Director of the National Sports Council.
The meeting was meant to update the minister on the stage of the ongoing work of the of the EU project in Promoting Investments in Culture, Creative Arts and Sports to Enhance Resilience against Climate Change in Local Communities.
The project beneficiaries includes the Gambia Wrestling Association, Gambia Chamber of Commerce and other partners.
It's aims at promoting traditional wrestling as a Cultural Heritage and subsequently, create job for young people who are into the art of wrestling.

Speaking at the meeting, Chris Addy-Nayo the project leader thanked the Honorable Minister for taking time off his busy schedules to have an audience with the project team.
He also expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far and highlighted the benefits of the project which will amongst other things promote culture, tradition and the environment.
Mr Marcel Mendy Executive Director, National Sports Council, said the project is in line with the ministry's mandate, thus he affirmed his institutions support to the project.

Baboucarr Saho, project manager at the GCCI said his institution is interested in the successful implementation of the project.
He add that the GCCI will continue to build up the gains and continue to work with the implementing partners for the benefit of young people in the country.

Minister Badjie reassured his ministries continues support to the implementation of the project.
He said the ministry has been advocating for the decentralisation of sporting facilities. He said the project will addressed the most important needs of wrestling in addressing the problem of arena and create employment for young people who venture into the arts and its economic growth.
Sheikh Omar Jallow brief the Minister on the project aims and objectives, the state of play, achievements and details of second phase.
