NATIONAL YOUTH PARLIAMENT SWORN IN NEW PARLIAMENTARIANS.

National Youth Parliament (NYP) of The Gambia a youth network in human rights, good governance and democracy today celebrated their 20th anniversary and equally sworn -in new parliamentarians of its 9th council after a free and fair election.  

The swearing in ceremony was held at the National Assembly Chambers in Banjul were the newly elected members took the prescribe oath of office. Subsequently Omar Cham was sworn in as the Speaker of the House.

In his keynote address, Honourable Bakary Y. Badjie said the Ministry, through National Youth Council will not hesitate to collaborate with NYP in the common goal of raising awareness on issues confronting young people, build capacities of young people, empower communities and advocate for the participation of young people in the political and governance processes.

Minister Badjie assured the new parliamentarians of government support in general, adding that they will continue to engage the youth as necessary and further strengthened their collaborative work in all areas of concern to the youth constituencies that have professionally and voluntarily serve.

“I want to challenge your leadership, while building on your previous gains, do more work in areas of drug abuse, climate change and livelihood skills acquisitions. From all indications, these three issues are among the major challenges confronting our young people, and thus deserve concerted efforts from government, UN agencies and youth associations like National Youth Parliament”. He emphasised.
