The Gambia Paralympic Athletic and Powerlifting Team, earlier today paid a courtesy call on Honourable Bakary Y.Badjie , Minister of Youth and Sports to present the medals they won in the championship in Tunisia and Manchester respectively.
The team that participated at the just-concluded World Para Powerlifting Championship in Manchester and Tunisia were led by the Executive members of the Gambia National Paralympic committee at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The purpose of the visits was to show their appreciation and discuss ways forward to strengthen the relationship between the Gambia National Paralympic committee (GNPC) and that of the ministry.
Abdoulie Danso head coach of the Paralympic Athletics and Hagie Drammeh coach for the powerlifting expressed similar sentiment of delight's Both called for more supports to their committee saying lack of proper equipment and facilities hinder their participation with their competitors'.
For his part, Honourable Bakary Y. Badjie thanks the members for coming. He said the success of the team is a greater success for the entire Gambia because their participation is in the name of the Gambia not only themselves.
Badjie said the Gambia Government and his Ministry are very appreciative despite the obstacle and challenges the team faces. The Minister assured the team of his continuous supports and urges the committee to follow the procedure anytime they need support.
