Following their impressive campaign in the recently concluded U19 African Nation's Championship in Abuja, Nigeria, The Gambia National Under 19 boys volleyball team are bracing up for a D500, 000 reward from the Gambia Government for their successful outing.
This was revealed to the delegation by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie on Friday, April 23rd, 2021 when the volleyball team and association executives paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Banjul.
The minister affirmed to the delegation that his ministry is empowered by the government to plan and execute policies that aims to empower young people and promote sports development, and that his office is determined to carry out its responsibilities accordingly.
Speaking earlier, Bai Dodou Jallow, President of the Gambia Volleyball Association, expressed gratitude to the ministry staff and government at large for their support. He acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry through the National Sports Council in attending to their requests. He urged the ministry to look into constructing indoor facilities to enable them to host international competitions.
In his remark, Marcel Mendy, Executive Director of the National Sports Council, commended the team for their efforts and thanked the association for their hard work. He assured them of his office’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development in the country. The delegation also presented the bronze medal to the honourable minister.
