GYCC Commits to Create Space For Youth Entrepreneurs

Baboucarr Kebbeh, Chief Executive Officer, Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC) has said that they are committed to create space for youth entrepreneurs in The Gambia to grow. “The exhibition is part of our efforts to empower our young people in Business, we trying to create a market linkage for these youngsters,” he said in an interview with MOYS media in Farafenni, North Bank Region as part of 7 days regional youth exhibition 2018, January 11-17, 2018. The 7 days Exhibition attracted 40 young entrepreneurs in the Region who will have the opportunity to expose their businesses and network with people. The Exhibition is supported by Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) a four year initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in partnership with the Government of the Gambia. This is part of activities under the GYCC meant to curb Youth irregular migration in the Gambia. Theme: "Creating Space for Young Entrepreneurs to Curb Youth Irregular Migration." This is the first Youth Exhibition in the NBR purposely targeting young Entrepreneurs

Africa, Europe youth summit ends in Abidjan

The 4th Africa and Europe Youth Summit recently ended in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The summit brought together African and European Heads of State in Abidjan for the 5th AU-EU Summit to discuss the priorities for the partnership between the two continents for the years to come. The 4th Africa-Europe Youth Summit and the EU-AU Youth Plug-In Initiative would strengthen direct participation in the political process affecting the livelihoods and future prospects of youth on both continents.

It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the 12th edition of the National Youth Conference & Festival (NAYCONF 2017) scheduled to take place from 15th – 22nd December 2017 in Basse, Upper River Region. NAYCONF 2017 shall be the 12th Edition of this prestigious national convergence since 2001. I understand that Youth Week during the first republic was transformed into the NAYCONF to include the youth conference as a platform for youth to interface with government and other duty bearers to discuss issues that affect their lives and livelihoods. The objective of organising this National youth gathering includes; Create a platform for youth voice, active participation and positive socialization among young people to discuss issues affecting them and map out a common road map and actionable programmes to addressing them.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is a Key Component of Government that has a fundamental stake in poverty reduction and the ultimate attainment of Vision 2020. It provides the Policy direction (Youth and Sports Policies) which are accessible in this website, for the smooth implementation of youth and sports activities and programmes throughout the country. It should be noted that this ministry has under its purview, implementing agencies such as, the Department of Youth and Sports (DYS), the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), President’s International Award (PIA), National Youth Council (NYC), National Sports Council (NSC), National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) and the Independence Stadium and Friendship Hostel. The Gambia’s youth constitute over 50% of the population which necessitates the need for their effective mainstreaming and assuming center of focus to drive socio-economic change and national development.
