THE MEMORABLE JOURNEY HAS ENDED!

Today's match has been a roller-coaster, and it ended in a not so desirable result as the Scorpions fought courageously with an exceptional performance that should have earned them a win again Cameroon.

The wish of the players and the entire country was to perform better than we did in the last AFCON, but that unfortunately didn't happen. We will go back to the drawing board, together with the Gambia Football Federation (GFF)and stakeholders, to chart out the way forward on building the successes registered so far in our football history.

The Ministry sends our congratulations to the entire team for putting up a fierce performance against an experienced side. A special thanks President of the Republic, H.E. Adama Barrow, and his entire government for always supporting the team. We express appreciation to Gambians who contributed and supported the team from day one of the journey. Same appreciation goes to companies and institutions that donated cash amounts to the National Coordinating Committee for AFCON2023..

The Ministry wishes to thank the Head Coach Tom Saintfiet for taking us to the AFCON twice in a row. The Belgian coach announced he's stepping down as the coach for The Gambia National Team after the game against Cameroon.
