NYC trains youth, children’s network on TJ

National Youth Council (NYC) in partnership with, Ministry of Justice, Child Protection Alliance, Think Young Women, andTransition, Reconciliationand Reparations Commission (TRRC) trained Children’s Network on Transitional Justice. The training attracted 33 children and youth across the country with funding from UNICEF. It was aim at building the capacity of network members on TRRC process and their role and responsibilities. The network will serve as the voices of the children in regions across the country and in schools.

Gambia U20 Champions of WAFU

The Gambia national U-20 team were crowned champions of the 2018 West African Football Union (WAFU) zone A tournament following their 2-1 victory over hosts Liberia on Saturday night at the Samuel K. Doe Stadium in Monrovia.It’s the second time the Gambia has reached the final of the (WAFU) competition; the first was in Saint Louise, Senegal when the Gambia refused to go for extra time with the host in 2015.Abdoulie Sarr opened the account for the Young Scorpions in the first half of the encounter but moments later the hosts equalised.The Gambia U-20 utility player Adama Jammeh scored the winning goal for the Young Scorpions during the second period to seal the victory for MatarrMboge’s Young scorpions.The Gambia’s U-20 goalkeeper Yankuba Colley was decorated as the best goalkeeper of the tournament


The newly appointed minister of youth and sports Hadrammeh Sidibeh has said his vision for the Gambia is to take Gambian sports to a desired admirable level. Speaking for the first time since his appointment was announced Hadrammeh said he is not a total stranger to Gambian sports especially football as he was a Wallidan player back in the late 70s alongside Biri Biri and others and since remained a passionate follower of football. He said like everyone else he had watched the Gambia painfully and unsuccessfully struggle to qualify for major football competitions and he will use his energy and influence to end that trend.

It provides the Policy direction (Youth and Sports Policies) which are accessible in this website, for the smooth implementation of youth and sports activities and programmes throughout the country. It should be noted that this ministry has under its purview, implementing agencies such as, the Department of Youth and Sports (DYS), the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), President’s International Award (PIA), National Youth Council (NYC), National Sports Council (NSC), National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) and the Independence Stadium and Friendship Hostel. The Gambia’s youth constitute over 50% of the population which necessitates the need for their effective mainstreaming and assuming center of focus to drive socio-economic change and national development.
