PURA gives One Million Dalasis to NCC for road to AFCON 2024

 

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA)  on Tuesday donated cheque worth one million Dalasis( 1, 000,000) to the National Coordinating Committee in support of Scorpion’s participation in the upcoming AFCON games scheduled to start 13 January 2024 in Ivory Coast.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, thanked PURA for being the first public institution to support the road to AFCON campaign and further call on other institutions to follow suit, while noting that lot of money is required to help the Scorpions succeed, Minister Badjie further said PURA has been very supportive in government efforts in raising revenue to finance sports.

In his remark, the Director General of PURA, Mr. Yuspha Jobe said his institution will continue to support the development of sports in the country, noting that it is against this background that PURA donates this amount to the NCC.

The Chairperson of fundraising and publicity committee Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh applauded PURA for coming with this amount of donation and assured him of the commitment to support the team all the way to the finals. Mr. Jammeh highlighted that football has exported more Gambians abroad with huge economic benefits to the country.

The National team is expected to return to the country from their training camp in Saudi Arabia on 8th January, play an exhibition match at Stadium on 9th, and depart for Ivory Coast on 9th January.
