The Gambia Elected to UNESCO Fund Approval Committee Against Doping in Sport

The Gambia has been elected to serve on the Fund Approval Committee of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport during the 10th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP10) to the International Convention Against Doping in Sport, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.

This milestone marks another proud moment for The Gambia under the leadership of Honourable Bakary Y. Badjie, Minister of Youth & Sports. His continued efforts in promoting good governance, integrity, transparency, and international cooperation in sports have earned The Gambia growing recognition on the global stage.

The Approval Committee, established in 2009, plays a key role in overseeing the allocation and management of the global Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport. It comprises six State Party representatives elected on the basis of equitable geographical representation, serving until the next ordinary session of the COP in 2027.

As a newly elected member, Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie will work alongside other international representatives to ensure the fair and strategic distribution of funds aimed at promoting clean and fair sports worldwide.

The Committee’s main responsibilities include:

✅ Overseeing fund allocations in line with COP resolutions and guidelines

✅ Leading national and regional advocacy and fundraising efforts

✅ Recommending strategies to enhance resource efficiency

✅ Ensuring transparency and accountability through close collaboration with the COP Bureau and Secretariat

✅ Promoting awareness and capacity-building initiatives within their respective regions

The Gambia’s election to this prestigious committee highlights its increasing leadership in sports governance and anti-doping advocacy — reaffirming the government’s commitment to fair play, ethics, and global cooperation in sports.
