REMODELING AT INDEPENDENCE STADIUM COMMENCES

Banning Gambia’s only stadium has been a major concern to the government of The Gambia over the last months. Bakary Y. Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports told the press corps during his briefing earlier today at the stadium in Bakau.

He disclosed that since the banned took effect, the government through his ministry has been working tirelessly to make sure that “we get what is needed which is funds and the right people and right companies to do the job".

He said that over the months they have been given a deadline which was September and it is important to shed light on that because people have always asked questions.

Minister Badjie said if the renovation works progress as expected the Scorpions might host its next qualifiers against Mali in March 2023 in The Gambia.

The Gambia government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports under his leadership is committed to renovating and remodeling the Independence Stadium.

It would be recalled that CAF had banned the Independence stadium from hosting football matches for the senior national until it is renovated to the recommended CAF standard.

The decision forces The Gambia to play its home matches on foreign soil. Therefore the Gambia played its home game against South Sudan at the Stade Latdior in Thies, Senegal.
