Gambia's Role in the Africa Agribusiness Youth Strategy Meeting in Lomé

Mr. Mbye Saine , Project Coordinator for The Gambia Songhai Initiative-GSI under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is participating in the Africa Agribusiness Youth Strategy (AAYS) meeting in Lomé. This meeting, organized by the African Union, seeks to tackle the challenges that limit youth involvement in the agribusiness sector.

The AAYS framework is particularly important for the Gambia, as it provides numerous opportunities to empower the nation's youth and advance its agricultural sector. The strategy's focus areas include skill development, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, access to finance, value chain enhancement, and the promotion of public-private partnerships. Furthermore, AAYS emphasizes climate-smart agriculture, crucial for maintaining sustainable farming practices in the face of climate change.

Gambia's involvement in this meeting positions the country to leverage shared expertise and resources, fostering a supportive environment for youth entrepreneurship and employment in agribusiness. This engagement is expected to contribute to the Gambia's economic growth, food security, and the empowerment of its future agricultural leaders.

Mr. Saine is joined at the meeting by Civil Ebrima Jarra, a representative from Soil Solutions, and Aisha Darboe senior agribusiness officer at Ministry of Agriculture - The Gambia
